Figuring out how to shoot overwater/underwater photos is one of the most difficult things that can be done with an underwater camera. It combines two different perspectives and results in photos that contain striking contrast. There are some important things to make sure of when trying to shoot this type of picture, though. The location of the sun is important since the light has to be sufficient for a good image but not at an angle that will put the sun into your picture. Another important factor is clarity of the water since particles floating in the water can occlude and distort the underwater portion of the photo. A dome port will also increase the angle of exposure the camera is able to attain. Another factor that is hard to exclude is the tendency for moving water to distort the image by wetting the dome port above the water line and often requires Photoshop editing to fix. There is a learning curve to any type of underwater photography but with practice, anyone can become proficient.
